Classic Origin done right !

BIRTHRIGHT represents a brand new take on Superman’s origin, last tackled in MAN OF STEEL (chronological) & SECRET ORIGIN (most recent take). It tops Geoff Johns/Gary Frank’s SECRET ORIGIN in many ways.
It completely skips Krypton. MAN OF STEEL had an 8 page expo, while in the 1st few pages we see more of the baby’s rocket journey.
In the 1st 2 issues, we see a critical question answered. What made Superman decide to be Superman? sure he was raised with the typical farmboy mentality, but the “great power great responsibility” is explored here. What’s more Mark decides to make Clark a vegetarian and also offers reason for it. a nice touch. In the next issues we see Clark’s strained relationship with his dad, his early days with Luthor in school (the only place where Johns’ origin worked), the fear in the public eyes about superman (just because a person wears primary colours & comes out in the day doesn’t make him a good man) and in the conclusion Luthor’s all out strike against Metropolis just to discredit Superman! Now does Krypton come into perspective.
