In this one, handy book, programmers get virtually everything they need to program in C, long established as an ANSI standard. The C programming language has been around since 1971 and is still the language of choice for many applications.
Learning a language–any language–involves a process wherein you learn to rely less and less on instruction and more increasingly on the aspects of the language you’ve mastered. Whether you’re learning French, Java, or C, at some point you’ll set aside the tutorial and attempt to converse on your own. It’s not necessary to know every subtle facet of French in order to speak it well, especially if there’s a good dictionary available. Likewise, C programmers don’t need to memorize every detail of C in order to write good programs. What they need instead is a reliable, comprehensive reference that they can keep nearby. “C in a Nutshell” is that reference.

This long-awaited book is a complete reference to the C programming language and C runtime library. Its purpose is to serve as a convenient, reliable companion in your day-to-day work as a C programmer. C in a Nutshell covers virtually everything you need to program in C, describing all the elements of the language and illustrating their use with numerous examples.

The book is divided into three distinct parts. The first part is a fast-paced description, reminiscent of the classic Kernighan & Ritchie text on which many C programmers cut their teeth. It focuses specifically on the C language and preprocessor directives, including extensions introduced to the ANSI standard in 1999. These topics and others are covered:

Numeric constants

Implicit and explicit type conversions

Expressions and operators

Functions

Fixed-length and variable-length arrays

Pointers

Dynamic memory management

Input and output

The second part of the book is a comprehensive reference to the C runtime library; it includes anoverview of the contents of the standard headers and a description of each standard library function. Part III provides the necessary knowledge of the C programmer’s basic tools: the compiler, the make utility, and the debugger. The tools described here are those in the GNU software collection.

“C in a Nutshell” is the perfect companion to K&R, and destined to be the most reached-for reference on your desk.

The book covers material contained in several courses of Curriculum 68 as described by the Association of Computing Machimery (ACM). This text is self-sufficient in that there are enough details for 370 and PL/I to support the rest of material and it will be useful for graduate students as well as professionals . In addition to discussing the traditional system components of assemblers and macros, the book gives special emphasis to important features of systems programming presently not covered in many texts-compilers, the advanced problems of storage allocation, recursion, operating systems, and I/O programming.

Covering a wide range of programming topics, this practical guide helps developers better understand Linux systems and application development through coverage of all the major development tools and how they link into the Linux kernel.
This book is about writing software that makes the most effective use of the system you’re running on — code that interfaces directly with the kernel and core system libraries, including the shell, text editor, compiler, debugger, core utilities, and system daemons. The majority of both Unix and Linux code is still written at the system level, and Linux System Programming focuses on everything above the kernel, where applications such as Apache, bash, cp, vim, Emacs, gcc, gdb, glibc, ls, mv, and X exist. Written primarily for engineers looking to program (better) at the low level, this book is an ideal teaching tool for any programmer. Even with the trend toward high-level development, either through web software (such as PHP) or managed code (C#), someone still has to write the PHP interpreter and the C# virtual machine. Linux System Programming gives you an understanding of core internals that makes for better code, no matter where it appears in the stack. Debugging high-level code often requires you to understand the system calls and kernel behavior of your operating system, too. Key topics include: An overview of Linux, the kernel, the C library, and the C compiler Reading from and writing to files, along with other basic file I/O operations, including how the Linux kernel implements and manages file I/O Buffer size management, including the Standard I/O library Advanced I/O interfaces, memory mappings, and optimization techniques The family of system calls for basic process management Advanced process management, including real-time processes File and directories-creating, moving, copying, deleting, and managing them Memory management — interfaces for allocating memory, managingthe memory you have, and optimizing your memory access Signals and their role on a Unix system, plus basic and advanced signal interfaces Time, sleeping, and clock management, starting with the basics and continuing through POSIX clocks and high resolution timers With Linux System Programming, you will be able to take an in-depth look at Linux from both a theoretical and an applied perspective as you cover a wide range of programming topics.

About the Book :

Enrollments in VLSI design automation courses are not large but it’s a very popular elective, especially for those seeking a career in the microelectronics industry. Already the reviewers seem very enthusiastic about the coverage of the book being a better match for their courses than available competitors, because it covers all design phases. It has plenty of worked problems and a large no. of illustrations. It’s a good ‘list-builder’ title that matches our strategy of focusing on topics that lie on the interface between Elec Eng and Computer Science.

About the Author :

The author, Sabih Gerez, has based the book on a course given to his students at the University of Twente, Enschede, in the Netherlands. About the Authors
Lynn Beighley is a fiction writer stuck in a technical book writer’s body. Upon discovering that technical book writing actually paid real money, she learned to accept and enjoy it.

After going back to school to get a Masters in Computer Science, she worked for the acronyms NRL and LANL. Then she discovered Flash, and wrote her first bestseller.

A victim of bad timing, she moved to Silicon Valley just before the great crash. She spent several years working for Yahoo! and writing other books and training courses. Finally giving in to her creative writing bent, she moved to the New York area to get an MFA in Creative Writing.

Her Head First-style thesis was delivered to a packed room of professors and fellow students. It was extremely well received, and she finished her degree, finished Head First SQL, and can’t wait to begin her next book. Lynn loves traveling, cooking, and making up elaborate background stories about complete strangers. She’s a little scared of clowns.

Michael Morrison is a writer, developer, toy inventor, and author of a variety of books covering topics such as Java, Web scripting, game development, and mobile devices. First Things First

This is the only series which identifies with a learner’s difficulty even before he encounters it and guides him in the friendliest way with step-by-step instructions. It is not just another title on the shelf for passive reading but a valuable resource more about interactive learning. Head First PHP & MySQL is not only a book but a substitution for a well-experienced and qualified tutor itself. Go for it. You will be proud of your decision. A transformation is just round the corner!!!

This third edition presents a well-defined roadmap so the reader can move along a step-by-step process from requirements gathering all the way to code generation. The author teaches the skill of OOAD using the latest version of the industry standard modeling language (UML 2.0). He also allows the reader to learn and apply the popular concept of design patterns and therefore helps readers accelerate their mastery of analysis and design. The author retains his thorough treatment of a single case study to help readers gain a big picture of successful software development. Once again this book delivers and furthers Craig Larman’s name among software engineering luminaries.

Excellent service for excellent book

If you are planning to buy books, chocolates, etc go to Gevella. So far, I have enjoyed buying the things on Gevella. Same book I have ordered on indiaplaza and received defective book. Still I have not received full amount back of the book from indiaplaza.
If I talk about the book, this book is for all the analysts, developers, and architects. It makes u think more on the object oriented and ultimately helps you to understand different phases of the SDLC. Also, it follows one example throughout the book and that makes this book unbeatable for learning.

You’re not alone.

At any given moment, somewhere in the world someone struggles with the same software design problems you have. You know you don’t want to reinvent the wheel (or worse, a flat tire), so you look to Design Patterns–the lessons learned by those who’ve faced the same problems. With Design Patterns, you get to take advantage of the best practices and experience of others, so that you can spend your time on…something else. Something more challenging. Something more complex. Something more fun.

You want to learn about the patterns that matter–why to use them, when to use them, how to use them (and when NOT to use them). But you don’t just want to see how patterns look in a book, you want to know how they look “in the wild”. In their native environment. In other words, in real world applications. You also want to learn how patterns are used in the Java API, and how to exploit Java’s built-in pattern support in your own code.

You want to learn the real OO design principles and why everything your boss told you about inheritance might be wrong (and what to do instead). You want to learn how those principles will help the next time you’re up a creek without a design paddle pattern.

Most importantly, you want to learn the “secret language” of Design Patterns so that you can hold your own with your co-worker (and impress cocktail party guests) when he casually mentions his stunningly clever use of Command, Facade, Proxy, and Factory in between sips of a martini. You’ll easily counter with your deep understanding of why Singleton isn’t as simple as it sounds, how the Factory is so often misunderstood, or on the real relationship between Decorator, Facade and Adapter.

With Head First Design Patterns , you’ll avoid the embarrassment of thinking Decorator is something from the “Trading Spaces” show. Best of all, in a way that won’t put you to sleep! We think your time is too important (and too short) to spend it struggling with academic texts.

If you’ve read a Head First book, you know what to expect–a visually-rich format designed for the way your brain works. Using the latest research in neurobiology, cognitive science, and learning theory, Head First Design Patterns will load patterns into your brain in a way that sticks. In a way that lets you put them to work immediately. In a way that makes you better at solving software design problems, and better at speaking the language of patterns with others on your team.

About the Authors
Eric Freeman is a computer scientist with a passion for media and software architectures and coauthor of Head First Design Patterns. He just wrapped up four years at a dream job– directing internet broadband and wireless efforts at Disney–and is now back to writing, creating cool software, and hacking Java and Macs.

Eric spent a lot of the ’90s working on alternatives to the desktop metaphor with David Gelernter (and they’re both still asking the question, “Why do I have to give a file a name?”). Based on this work, Eric landed a Ph.D. at Yale University in 1997. He also co-founded Mirror Worlds Technologies (now acquired) to create a commercial version of his thesis work, Lifestreams.

Elisabeth Freeman is an author and software developer. She is coauthor of O’Reilly’s Head First Design Patterns and Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML.

Kathy Sierra has been interested in learning theory since her days as a game developer (Virgin, MGM, Amblin’). More recently, she’s been a master trainer for Sun Microsystems, teaching Sun’s Java instructors how to teach the latest technologies to customers, and a lead developer of several Sun certification exams. Along with her partner Bert Bates, Kathy created the Head First series. She’s also the original founder of the Software Development/Jolt Productivity Award-winning javaranch.com, the largest (and friendliest) all-volunteer Java community.

Bert Bates is a 20-year software developer, a Java instructor, and a co-developer of Sun’s upcoming EJB exam (Sun Certified Business Component Developer). His background features a long stint in artificial intelligence, with clients like the Weather Channel, A&E Network, Rockwell, and Timken.

Nice book at nice price

I bought this book in order to prepare for Oracle Certified Expert, Java Platform, EE 6 Web Services Developer. And this book certainly assisted me in accomplishing the task in less time. Worth to mention the author Martin has given lot of information on web services in less number of pages (around 330), so that we can prepare quickly.
Regarding Gevella, the price of the book is attractive as this is the cheapest price in the market. Kudos to Gevella.
Hope Gevella improves on delivery (time).
